Understanding ADHD
What is ADHD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition that affects both children and adults. It’s characterized by patterns of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity that can interfere with daily functioning and relationships.
ADHD is not a sign of laziness or lack of intelligence—it's a brain-based disorder that affects how people focus, organize, and regulate their behaviors and emotions.
Signs & Symptoms
ADHD symptoms are generally grouped into two categories:
Inattention
Difficulty staying focused or following through on tasks
Trouble organizing activities or managing time
Frequently losing things
Avoiding tasks that require sustained mental effort
Hyperactivity & Impulsivity
Fidgeting or inability to sit still
Talking excessively or interrupting others
Difficulty waiting turns
Acting without considering consequences
Every individual experiences ADHD differently—some may primarily struggle with attention, others with hyperactivity, and many with a combination of both.
ADHD in Adults
While ADHD is often diagnosed in childhood, many adults live with undiagnosed ADHD. In adults, it may show up as:
Chronic disorganization
Poor time management
Restlessness or feeling overwhelmed
Struggles with work performance or relationships
Proper evaluation and treatment can significantly improve quality of life.
